Homes >> Retirement House, Galway.

The client, in her seventies, wanted to downsize from a large, dated and unsuitable property to a new warm energy efficient house. The older original house had all the typical barriers in relation to mobility and unsuitable ergonomics.

The new single storey home is on one level, barrier free, and employs all the best principles of universal design, while providing a home of character, suitable for the semi-rural context. The house is arranged around a central living room and staggered in plan to create sheltered outdoor spaces.

The new house has rejuvenated and facilitated a much improved quality of life.

“Moving from a 150-year old house that I had loved and lived in for over 45 years was never going to be easy.  However, the beauty and functionality of the new house designed by Pat McCabe, along with the smoothness of the design and construction phases, made the experience far easier than I had thought possible.

From start to finish the design and management service offered by Pat surpassed my high expectations. The new house suits my needs and is stylish and comfortable. I am delighted to have made the move and am the envy of friends and family alike.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Pat and Sarah, who were a pleasure to deal with.”
