Neighbourhoods >> Carraig an Iolair, Galway.
Carraig an Iolair is located in Barna at the edge of the Connemara Gaeltacht. This semi-rural context has informed the design which takes reference from vernacular forms of white walls and slate roofs. The layout of the houses is like a “clachan” to create a sense of community and a sense of place. The house designs have flexible interiors, which are light filled, and facilitate life time adaptability. The L shaped house plans track the sun and create a sense of arrival via an entrance forecourt.
