Homes >> A Modern Country House, Galway.
Set in east Galway farming land, this design draws its reference from local vernacular buildings to create a modern light-filled family home. A single storey wing which contains the kitchen/dining areas and has a vaulted ceiling shoulders against the two storey main volume. Internally, this intersection links all the primary spaces both vertically and horizontally, and has sliding walls which allow open or cellular arrangements. Externally, the two volumes create a sheltered patio and sun trap, with a covered barbecue area on the private side of the house.
“After nearly four months of living in our new house in Cloonacath I wanted to thank you again for doing an excellent job designing this beautiful highly functional home for us. Living in it is a real pleasure and we both enjoy the house every single day anew. Looking at the design brief we discussed during the early stages of the project in 2010 we must say that you really did understand what we had in mind and were well able to transform our requirements into a building that sits well on its site and is admired, not only by us, but by everybody who comes to visit us here.
Unlike so many people who feel that building their house was a very stressful time, we found that the building process itself was overall a very enjoyable and exciting experience. So once again, we would like to thank Pat and his team for an excellent job done on this project; and thank him personally for his wonderful design.”
